Make It Home Program Overview

The Make It Home (MIH) program is an affordable home-purchase program that operates as a partnership between UCHC and the City of Detroit that gives the residents the first option to buy their home if it is foreclosed. MIH has operated since 2017 and has assisted with the purchase of over 1,700 homes for residents including renters, former owners, and family homes. This position is classified as exempt.

Position Overview

The United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC) Make It Home Project Manager will oversee and manage all operations of the Make It Home program. The Make It Home (MIH) Project Manager will focus on outreach to eligible residents, conducting registration classes and vetting of candidates, overseeing staff and interns who will assist residents through the process, assess funding needs and participate in fundraising efforts, and coordinate inter-departmentally within UCHC to support clients with utility assistance, repair needs, etc. The MIH Project Manager will also oversee and manage operations of the UCHC Tax Auction Home Purchase Program for residents who cannot otherwise participate in MIH.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities Include:

  • Spearhead outreach efforts to residents of foreclosed homes via mailers, phone calls, canvassing efforts, etc.

  • Conduct registration workshops with MIH candidates (April-July) as part of the enrollment process for residents who would like to participate. Workshops should be accessible and safe. Some workshops may take place in the evenings or on weekends to accommodate clients’ needs.

  • Coordinate with community groups and other agencies to host workshops and outreach efforts in the community.

  • Assist in developing materials and program documents for MIH clients.

  • Overseeing and managing the vetting of MIH clients to ensure clients are eligible based on the program requirements.

  • Coordinate inter-departmentally with the repair team to conduct inspections of MIH candidates’ homes to ensure eligibility.

  • Train and supervise other UCHC staff, interns and volunteers who will counsel MIH clients.

  • Maintain accurate and thorough files of MIH participants throughout the program.

  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking all participants. Coordinate with the Data Management Component.

  • Attend meetings and maintain communications with MIH partners, such as the City of Detroit and funders.

  • Assist in fundraising as necessary to ensure adequate funds to purchase homes. Coordinate with Finance Director, Director of Homeownership, Chief Operations Officer, and Executive Director.

  • Assist with issuing land contracts and deeds for MIH participants.

  • Assist with auction workshops, vetting, purchasing, deed work, and follow up in addition to MIH.

  • Maintain regular and consistent communication with UCHC clients who participate in MIH and auctions throughout the process.

  • Analyze and recommend changes to the program to meet various program needs.

  • Create systems to monitor and outreach to prior year Make It Home participants.

  • Provide support and resources to past Make It Home participants through property tax and utility help.

  • Perform other duties and and assignments as may become necessary and requested by the Program/Department Director, COO, or Executive Director.

Requirements

Qualifications

The successful candidate will believe in UCHC’s mission and demonstrate a passion for driving the organization’s growth. They will also have:

  • A bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services or related field; and/or equivalent experience in the human services field and/or equivalent life experience.

  • Supervisory experience is helpful.

  • Good verbal, writing, and interpersonal communications skills

  • Good research and organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.

  • Competency in Microsoft (Word, Excel, Outlook), comfort using cloud-based systems and case tracking software, basic data systems; Salesforce experience helpful.

  • Experience leading teams of people and project management.

  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a group.

  • The ability to learn quickly and balance multiple projects at once.

  • Demonstrated commitment to community and the population we serve.

  • The ability to support and service clients from various cultural and economic backgrounds

  • Commitment to equity, housing justice, and trauma-informed service delivery.

Job Specifics


Specifics

  • This is a full-time position with a competitive benefits package. Salary commensurate with experience.

  • Schedule 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or 9:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m., Monday -Friday. Occasional evening & weekend hours when needed.

  • Expected start date: as soon as possible.
