Keep Detroit Housed
Support housing justice with UCHC during the Rocket Community Challenge

A Detroit-wide fundraising campaign is underway and United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC) is in the race.

From August 4 to August 29, we’re participating in the Rocket Community Challenge, a citywide competition where nonprofits share their stories and compete for a $25,000 grand prize — plus thousands more in weekly bonus funding and surprise awards

Why it Matters

  • $250 can prevent an eviction

  • $5,000 can turn a renter into a homeowner

  • Thousands of Detroit families rely on UCHC’s free legal, rental, and counseling services

Every donation supports eviction defense, housing stability, and the creation of new homeowners.

Bonus Fundraiser Challenges & How They Work

  • Week 1 (Aug 4–11): Rocket will match the first $25 of each eligible donation from a national pool

  • Week 2 (Aug 11–18): Compete for a $3,500 bonus for top Detroit fundraisers

    • Our Board will match up to $1,000 in donations 1:1

  • Week 3 (Aug 18–25): A $2,500 bonus is available for the top five fundraisers

  • Week 4 (Aug 25–29): UCHC could earn $4,500 if the most Rocket employees donate

  • Golden Tickets (Aug 25–29): Every $5+ gift enters us into daily surprise prize drawings

  • Board Match (Aug 11–18): Our Board will match up to $1,000 in donations 1:1

What Your Donation Could Make Possible

  • $50,000 funds major home repair projects for low-income homeowners — keeping 10-15 homes safe, livable, and owner-occupied.

  • $25,000 powers a full neighborhood organizing campaign — reaching 100+ households with legal aid and advocacy.

  • $10,000 provides critical repairs for one Detroit homeowner — preventing displacement and preserving generational housing.

  • $5,000 covers full support through the home purchase process — turning a renter into a first-time homeowner.

  • $2,000 funds education, outreach, and resource delivery — providing Know-Your-Rights materials to 500 tenants.

  • $500 offers emergency rental or utility assistance — keeping a vulnerable tenant in their home this month.

  • $250 pays for a furnace inspection and winter readiness — protecting a family from losing heat during the winter.

  • $100 equips canvassers with materials and transit — allowing outreach to 25+ homes in foreclosure-prone areas.

  • $50 provides ride-share or bus fare to court or tax appointments — ensuring access to critical services in a crisis.

Our Impact in the Last Year

  • 3,996 Detroit households supported through eviction defense and legal representation

  • 1,103 homeowners helped avoid tax foreclosure

  • 36 homes repaired through UCHC’s Home Repair Services

  • 120+ tenant households identified for homeownership opportunities through community outreach

Every number reflects real families, real homes, and real stability. Your gift helps keep that momentum going.
