Advancing Housing Stability Through Systems Change

At United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC), preventing eviction means acting early; not just responding to crisis. Our latest case study shows how a redesigned, prevention-focused model is helping more Detroit families stay housed while using resources more efficiently. See the bottom of the page for the full case study.
The Challenge
Detroit faces one of the highest eviction rates in the country, with support often coming too late to stop displacement. Many tenants lack legal representation, and traditional systems have focused on crisis response rather than prevention.
The Solution
UCHC shifted to an early intervention model that integrates legal services, financial assistance, and case management from the start. This kind of early intervention and case management stops housing crises and prevents escalation.
The Impact (As of March 2026)
915 cases served (up from 121)
13-day average case time (down from 89 days)
$1,200 cost per case (down from $2,300)
824 subsidies preserved (up from 76)
What We’re Learning
Early, coordinated support prevents eviction, reduces long-term instability, and allows us to serve more families faster and more effectively.
Get Involved
We’re building on this momentum through new partnerships and pilot programs, but we can’t do it alone.
