DPSCD - HOUSING RESOURCE COORDINATOR
Position Overview
The Housing Resource Coordinator position is part of an exciting new partnership between Detroit Public Schools Community District (DPSCD) and the United Community Housing Coalition. The resource coordinator will be part of the UCHC team working under the direction of a project Director, and will work in collaboration with DPSCD guidance counselors, social workers, parent councils, and principals to provide DPSCD families with the information and resources they need to meet their housing needs. The resource coordinator will liaise with DPSCD and create necessary resources for DPSCD families. The coordinator will bridge UCHC’s housing support services with DPSCD’s organizational framework and communications to increase access to resources, information, and education to increase the housing security of DPSCD households.
Duration: 12 months
Salary: $35,000
Working Conditions: Some remote work, and some on-site work within DPSCD community resource hubs/schools.
Responsibilities:
Under the direction of a UCHC project Director the Housing Resource Coordinator will help develop the program for the DPSCD engagement. The Coordinator will receive all the necessary in house training and support to achieve a successful outcome.

Be broadly knowledgeable of the Coronavirus, Emergency, Rental Assistance (CERA) program and tax foreclosure assistance services offered to residents of the City of Detroit, Hamtramck, and Highland Park.

Oversee the caseload intake of DPSCD families using Qualtrics, and coordinate the management of this data with DPSDC staff. Creating an internal record using UCHC’s data management system will be required.

Maintain ongoing relationships and communication with DSPCD staff, including guidance counselors, social workers, teachers, principles, and parent leaders.

Provide some counseling services, and direct families to appropriate divisions within UCHC or alternative services to ensure families receive appropriate assistance.

Create and deliver online webinars and produce written materials for housing and tenant education intended for DPSCD families.

Create and distribute written materials informing renters and homeowners of their rights, and of assistance and support services that can help them meet their housing needs.

Provide DPSCD community resource hubs with print materials, and coordinate the translation and dissemination of written and online materials with DPSCD communications personnel.

Act as a liaison between the United Community Housing Coalition and the Detroit Public Schools Community District.

Hold ‘office hours’ at DPSCD resource hubs or at schools if/when in-person learning resumes.

Form relationships with parent counsels, principles, and parent leaders within schools, and inform these groups of housing resources available to prevent foreclosure and eviction.
Qualifications:

GED, high school diploma, associate’s degree, or bachelor’s degree; demonstrating the candidate’s ability to read, write, and communicate effectively and initiate and complete tasks.

Strong independent work ethic and ability to manage one’s own workflow.

Experience in the creation, facilitation, and presentation of intercultural training programs.

Previous experience working in or with community outreach.

Experience in public outreach and public education

Experience in employing effective problem solving and leadership skills to bring about transformational change in an organization.

Demonstrated knowledge, skills, awareness of and demonstrated commitment to contemporary issues of inclusion, anti-racism, social justice, diversity, access, and equity.

Previous experience living or working with non-white populations.

Fluency in Spanish, Arabic or other non-English language(s) prevalent in the local community is an asset.

A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle will be useful for this position.

Full-time position lasting 12 months.

UCHC offers generous medical benefits and time off.

Schedule: 8:30 - 4:30 or 9:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, though some additional time may be required depending on agency needs.

United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC) is a nonprofit comprehensive housing assistance organization, which has provided a variety of housing-related services to Detroit's low-income residents since 1973.
