ACCOUNTING ASSISTANT
Position Overview
The Rental Placement Inspector is part of the UCHC Repair Program will work under the guidance of the Home Repair Services Director. The job duties consist of inspecting potential rental properties for UCHC Housing clients for health and safety compliance, sharing the results of the inspections with the client, UCHC staff, and the property owner or their designated representative, documenting inspection results in Landgrid for future reference, and performing follow-up inspections as deemed necessary.
Responsibilities

Complete site visits and residential home inspections with potential rental housing clients and landlords.

Perform inspections to assess rentals for minimum health and livability requirements.

Assess safety issues at the rental property and document needed repairs.

Convey to client and landlord any actions that are needed to make the property eligible for assistance from UCHC.

Document and maintain digital records of completed inspection surveys, including photographs to the Landgrid.

Recognize the alignment of donors’ interests with the value of UCHC’s programs, services, and events; and be a representative of UCHC’s Repair Program when appropriate.

Strong skills in negotiation, listening, and proficiency in writing and verbal communications.

Work hands-on in developing and executing Build Team tasks and workorders.

Assist with administrative tasks as needed.

Participate in various organization staff meetings as assigned.

Perform other related tasks as assigned by program director or the executive director.
Qualifications

An associate’s degree, high school diploma or GED, or equivalent experience in residential building inspection.

Experience with Microsoft Office and intermediate computer literacy.

The ability to learn quickly and to balance multiple projects at once. Excellent time management skills.

Physical considerations

A valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle will be useful for this position.

The Rental Placement Inspector may need to enter housing units that do not yet comply with ADA accessibility standards.

Schedule: 8:30 - 4:30 or 9:00 - 5:00 Monday - Friday, though some additional time may be required depending on court filings.

United Community Housing Coalition (UCHC) is a nonprofit comprehensive housing assistance organization, which has provided a variety of housing-related services to Detroit's low-income residents since 1973.
The organization has worked with tenants, homesteaders, homeowners, the homeless, community organizations rebuilding neighborhoods and providing affordable housing, religious, civil rights, labor and housing advocacy organization to improve, preserve and expand affordable housing opportunities for low-income Detroiters.

Position Overview
The Accounting Assistant will work under the guidance of the Finance Director and Executive Director. They will contribute to the overall success of the organization by assisting with financial and human resources tasks as directed.
Responsibilities

Assist in maintaining accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable and receivable, credit control, and petty cash.

Assist with bookkeeping functions and maintaining complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions.

Assist in implementing and ensuring compliance with internal financial and accounting policies and procedures.

Assist in gathering supporting information for the annual audit.
-
Assist in preparation of grant billings and monitoring required client outcomes.
-
Maintain client confidence and protect operations by upholding confidentiality.

Participate in staff meetings as needed.
Qualifications
-
A bachelor’s degree, associate’s degree, or equivalent experience in financial management.
-
3-5 years of experience of progressive financial responsibility.
-
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
-
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, intermediate computer literacy, and intermediate knowledge of other accounting software.

The Accounting Assistant should be ethical, highly organized, have a detailed-oriented mind, and be able to communicate effectively.
