Tax Foreclosure Prevention Project Logo
In partnership with Michigan Legal Services, UCHC engages in tax foreclosure prevention counseling in Detroit and Wayne County. Our efforts include helping occupants of foreclosed properties obtain additional time to pay, enter into specialized payment plans, file probate or quiet title actions, and in some cases, purchase at the fall tax foreclosure auctions. In addition, we help individuals facing evictions after the fall auctions, negotiating purchase and rental agreements to keep people in their homes, as well as helping individuals obtain more time for relocation, to avoid episodes of homelessness.

Walk-in hours are 9:00am - 12:00pm on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Please arrive at 9:00 am. Free counseling services are available to residents of Wayne County, who occupy a home in property tax foreclosure or at risk of being foreclosed. Please bring any paperwork you have received regarding your foreclosure, a recent utility bill, any lease agreement or copy of your deed, and your driver's license or state ID with you.

HP-TAP / PTE Workshops are the First Thursday of every month from 4:00pm - 6:00pm. Please arrive early with as many of the documents listed on this worksheet as possible. We can not guarantee that you will be seen if you arrive after 5:30. Please expect longer wait times as the HP-TAP applications are lengthy!
